Pseudacteon formicarum Pseudacteon formicarum is a species of parasitoid fly in the family Phoridae. It is native to South America and is found in Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. It is a parasitoid of ants in the genus Solenopsis, specifically S. invicta, S. geminata, and S. saevissima. The female fly lays its eggs on the ant"s body, and when the larvae hatch, they feed on the ant"s body fluids, eventually killing it. The fly has been used in biological control programs to control fire ants in the United States.
