Acrocanthosaurus Acrocanthosaurus was a large, bipedal carnivorous dinosaur that lived during the Early Cretaceous period, approximately 125 to 100 million years ago. It was one of the earliest and largest carnivorous dinosaurs, measuring up to 11 meters (36 feet) in length and weighing up to 6 metric tons. Its most distinctive feature was the tall spines on its back and neck, which may have been used for display or defense. Acrocanthosaurus had a long, low skull with a narrow snout and powerful jaws lined with sharp, serrated teeth. Its body was heavily muscled and it had three large claws on each hand.
