Xenia of Petersburg Xenia of Petersburg (1875–1960) was a Russian Orthodox saint and one of the most beloved figures in Russian Orthodoxy. She was born in St. Petersburg and worked as a nurse in a hospital there. She was known for her great love and compassion for the sick and the poor, and for her selfless service to those in need. She was canonized in 1988 and is now venerated as a saint by the Russian Orthodox Church. She is often depicted in icons with a bowl of soup or a basket of food, symbolizing her service to the needy.
