jim davis 5 Jim Davis is a renowned American cartoonist, best known as the creator of the comic strip "Garfield". He was born on July 28, 1945, in Marion, Indiana. Davis" humorous strip about a lazy, lasagna-loving cat named Garfield, his owner Jon Arbuckle, and fellow pet Odie, a dog, was first published on June 19, 1978. The strip quickly gained popularity and is now syndicated in roughly 2,580 newspapers and journals, making it the world"s most widely syndicated comic strip. Davis"s other creations include "Tumbleweeds", "Gnorm Gnat", and "Mr. Potato Head". He has received numerous awards for his work, including the National Cartoonist Society Humor Comic Strip Award in 1981 and 1985. Davis wrote all of the Emmy Award-winning Garfield TV specials and was one of the producers behind the Garfield & Friends TV show which aired from 1988 to 1994. In addition to his work as a cartoonist, Davis is the author of dozens of Garfield books, which have sold millions of copies worldwide. Despite the success, Davis has remained dedicated to his craft, often working 14-hour days, seven days a week.
